I think its unfair to say that this page has 'errors'. It is correct to say that it is incomplete but anything said so far is valid.

I was wondering the same thing when I say it pop up under pages needing attention

My bad. I was looking specifically at the crash note at the bottom which doesn't seem to be true for me, and can therefore be misleading. Was going to change it after I checked, and probably still will.

Okay, I spruced up the formatting, and clarified that the crash does not occur for everyone.

No objections there. Since it was my first article on the Wiki I was counting on someone else to brush up its finese.

Concerning the Crashes

"I found the problem; a dialog pops up for confirmation but it is hidden by the other G.E.C.K. windows. The solution is to move and resize all the G.E.C.K. windows (including the main window) so that you can see the center of your desktop. Then the dialog will be visible." from Xyx0r on Bethesda Forums.

Are we sure he's talking about the same thing? When I open the GECK and click the load button, a window pops up with all the files. If I go to my .esp and type in a new name for the author, that's all I have to do. Clicking anything else after that saves the change. Never does a confirmation window pop up. If you have a link to the post feel free to post that and I'll try to find out more.

I think this problem may be related to plugins created before the GECK. I never ran into the problem, UNTIL I tried naming a plugin made without the GECK, in which case the box popped up behind the window. Pressing space twice cleared it, and the GECK did not crash. If people run into this, try moving the Data Files window before editing the Name, which should allow the window to show up properly and we can see what the message is.

I've seen a message box a few times when loading plugins made with FO3Edit (I don't think I necessarily had to change author name). I just loaded up a plugin so that I could copy/paste the error here:
Form counts don't match.
File = SurgeonsRifle.esp
Forms loaded = 10
Forms in file = 4

Do you want to correct the file header?
Yes No
Obviously this will be slightly different for different data files. It seems that no matter which button I press, the GECK won't crash for me. Cipscis 23:45, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Did the message pop up on loading the plugin or changing the name in the Data Files window? It may be the same message, I just want to confirm.
And yes, the crash part may have to do with system set up. My F3 is installed under 'C:/Games' because I didn't feel like dealing with any Vista protected /Program Files/ nonsense.
