Function pages

Never done much wiki editing before so hope I'm doing this right... Anyhow I'm sorry for messing things up (heh if I could mess it up anymore...), I was trying to follow the style the majority of the other function pages use and trying to clean things up a bit since the style is all over the place.

What are the benefits of the function template anyhow? Seems to overcomplicate things making it more difficult for people to edit (and easier to make mistakes), adds surpurfulous\unneeded information along with making it more difficult to read when people actually view the page.

If the TESWiki discussion contained important information shouldn't it be on the main page instead of hidden away in who knows how much discussion anyway? Besides the functions could act a little different between the games making the discussion useless\scare people with false information.

I'll refrain from all Wiki editing until the style "finalized", at the moment it is just a pain in the ass... -Quarn

Thanks for the notice. I do plan on doing some more edits once I start making more headway with my mod, so I'll try to use the template for those from now on =) --Omzy 01:33, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

DW likes it with two L's ??

Huh? I didn't create any of the user categories on this Wiki... and Category:Modeller does not appear to exist in any case.

I was referring to the User Category on the CS Wiki, which you created. The two L's is for consistency, it's both correct spelling so it doesn't really matter. I was about to create the missing user categories, but I had to run, I will do so now.

Translations

Looks like you had a fair bit of work cleaning up after Ventarix - yech, you poor thing! On the other hand, providing properly linked translations would be pretty awesome: I believe the wiki has the facility to provide translations of pages, if translators write 'em. Looks like, even though he did 'em wrong, Ventraix went to a lot of work in his translations, and from what little I know of the language, the translations look accurate, so the fact that he didn't know the right way to go about it is really no shame on him.

So even though he made a ton of work for you, maybe using your greater, editor-level knowledge of the wiki to point him in the correct direction of the appropriate translation tools might have been more constructive and encouraging, and been a somewhat better reward for his hard work than threats. At least, in my own community management, I've found that suggesting how the well-meaning-but-wrong people might be helpful the *right* way tends to give better returns on my investment of time.

Particularly with translators: getting just one on the job tends to attract an entire country of helpers. They're like helper-magnets! And those helpers don't just focus on the translated pages: as they translate from English, they fix up the English pages too. Much good fan-juice.

Just a thought, and I'm aware it might sound like "trying to tell you your job" - if it does, I apologise. DewiMorgan 20:03, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

You're probably right. I was in a hurry, and the comment turned out more harshly than I indented. I'll leave another note on Vetraix' page to explain the situation. But I feel obliged to explain my reasons here.
The cleaning up was a matter of 2 clicks per page, that's not what bothers me. What annoys me most about the edits is the arrogance that emanates from changing the language - as if another language is better than the American English that's used here. Or in other words; the thought that changing the language from English into something else would improve the article. For me that's as bad replacing the text with random garbage. It's not that I consider English superior to anything else (I'm not even a native English speaker), but that's the language we use here. Translating doesn't bother me as long as the existing article is not harmed. That was not the case here, existing text was replaced.
You're right in the assumption that the MediaWiki software supports multiple languages. It's a change only Bethesda can make. However, this is something that will have to be discussed on the Community Portal first. So if you're serious, make a new section and state your ideas.

Given the work that he put into it, I think it's probably safe to "assume good faith" there: rather than being deliberately arrogant, I suspect he genuinely didn't realise he was *replacing* the English, but rather thought he was adding a parallel alternative to the existing page. That's just my guess, though, 'cos I find it hard to imagine someone who knew what they were doing, putting a lot of effort into a translation that they'd expect to have reverted: there're much less complicated ways to be an annoying twit, for those who find that kind of thing entertaining.
And yeah, sorry - I kept getting the number of tilde's wrong. Didn't want to try a third edit to get it right. *trundles off to investigate the community portal thingus* DewiMorgan 21:58, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Fallout bugs

Hi. Sorry for posting it here, but there seems to be no private messaging feature here. I have a little something to discuss. I think I found some bugs in the game, but I have noone that would confirm them. If you're interested I'd appreciate any support. --gozolo 11:53, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

When posting a message on a users talk page they get this message:
You have new messages (last change).
A private messaging system doesn't exist, but you can always look people up on the forums. Most people have the same handle there. I do.
I'm willing to help, but a bit short on time. I'm moving to Amsterdam in a week and I'm busy with the preparations. I probably have time to try a few things, but anything big will have to wait.

Captcha: Can't make a new account on CS.Bethsoft.com

Hey, I'm currently modding oblivion and, well, just can't create a new account on CS.Bethsoft.com due to an error with the ReCaptcha. I've tried doing it on two separate computers, same deal. I'd like to contribute in the Magic Effects page that someone on the TESNexus uploaded a tool which cracked to hard-coding on the said magic effects allowing you to create new magic effects, duplicate, edit existing ones/delete 'em.
